Heavily accented man said he was from the Australian Taxation Office. He called me by my full name and said needed my bank details as they were updating systems. I just said "no, I don't think so" and hung up.

Same as Helen and Peter. An intimidating automated message from Officer John Smith. It's a scam -- probably to solicit more personal information from you when you call back. Ignore it. The American accent and the reference to an "attorney" is a give-away that it's a scam.

Same message on my voicemail in my office. My office fixed line is a silent number and used just for fax and ATM machine normally.
Officer John Smith supposedly from the ATO, tax crime division. American accent. Said to call back straight away but if I didn't or didn't get the message in time he could only wish me luck as the situation 'unfolds upon me'.
I did ring the number just to see what/who was on the other end but has a busy signal.
Obviously a scam and a nasty one. I would consider this a threat.
