Missed the call but found a message on the mobile to ring Citibank Card Security on the phone number on the back of my credit card (sounds legit). Rang the number on the back of my credit card and was satisfied it was indeed Citibank, but they had no record of the call to me made just minutes earlier. Seems odd – why would a scammer get me to ring a legit Citi phone number (on the back of my card) rather than their own number? Just to be extra cautious I rang them on the landline rather than by hitting the number in the message on the mobile.

I did not take the call, but a call to a correct Citibank number confirmed that they had been calling to verify an overseas credit card transaction, which was in fact a legitimate transaction.

Said they were from BoQ - said that I had activity on my credit card and said wrong type of card. Put me on hold when I asked too many questions and disconnected me. tried to call back on another phone and there was just nothing.

Received a call from (02) 8027 2000 - regarding my Citibank Card - which incidentally I DO NOT HAVE and never have had. Rang the 1300 550 216 number that was left on the answering machine and when I asked them what this was about and told them I had no account with them and that I would be reporting it to Citibank direct and the police they hung up. This certainly smells like a scam.

I just moved some money from my Citibank account for the first time and their card centre security phoned on (02) 8027 2000. If you miss the call you can phone them back on 1300 550 216 or 13 24 84 or (02) 8225 0615. Nice to know they have a good security watch going on.

Called virgin and verified it was a legitimate call. If in doubt just call the public customer service numbers and if it's legitimate you can deal with it there.
Best not to ignore the call entirely.

They called at 7PM on a Sunday night claiming to be from Citibank Australia. They said there was suspicious activity on my debit card (of which there was none, having checked on my app) and immediately asked for my mother's maiden name - this is quite obviously a scam.
Don't believe the lies they tell you, saying that they are a 24-hour phone service and that you will get redirected to the same number if you call Citibank. This number is quite obviously a home telephone number, and the text they might send you after that looks automated (saying you have suspicious activity in your account) is quite obviously from a personalised mobile number - Citibank doesn't operate like that.
Don't listen to any of the below comments saying that they are legitimate - they were probably posted by the scammers themselves, or people who have fallen for their tricks.
To the scammers - please go make a decent living.

Citibank credit card security seeking to clarify an overseas purchase. What a great service and security. Citi telemarketing often get a bad rap, but this was a pleasure.

Citibank Debt Collection Department. They call themselves the "Debt Recovery Team". They are on a 12.5% KPI on all debts recovered.

Got a call from this number and a voicemail message saying there was suspicious activity on my card. I called the number back and got a message saying the number is not connected. I rang the customer service number for my card provider and it turns out there was suspicious activity on my card. My card was cancelled and a new one issued.
