Said they were from Coles Mastercard and wanted to know if I had any high ranking officials in my family. it was a requirement for them to know as Citi bank has taken over Coles Mastercard. They called my mobile and then called my work to ask this.

Wanted to confirm details on my Coles Credit Card. Knew my name. Barely understandable due to a very heavy Indian accent . This call screams SCAM. I wouldn't trust the posts here saying the call is legitimate.

I called Citibank's main number and it was indeed from their fraud dept. They put a block on my card due to suspicious activity and sent a new card out to me...it's real.

Left message saying to call virgin credit security about activity on my account funny as I have never heard of them or applied for a credit card. Rang the number that called me surprise not connected.. definitely a scam prob to get me to give out my information..

She knew my last 4 digits and address. But not my bank manager or branch I opened account. SCAM.

I have never ever seen a landline number beginning with 0041.... that should already ring the bell

It is NOT legitimate! I just confirmed this is a SCAM with my credit card company.

Claimed they were from Coles Credit Card. I just checked with Coles - the call is a SCAM!!! "Coles will never request unsolicited information by telephone"!!!

Legit - though it's odd that they don't leave a voicemail. Called my bank's credit card services and they had indeed tried to make contact with me about a credit card security matter.

It's Citibank, however they generally never say what its about or who is calling so always seems suspicious. You'd think they would find a way to be clearer in the message about what it is.

Caller: Qantas Premier Cards

Yes I applied for a card and it was from Citibank.. they rang at 7.05pm and said ring back on 1 (03) 0041 6977 and then it goes to an answering machine saying business hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm. WTF

Caller: Claimed to be Coles Mastercard

Difficult to tell from this thread whether legit or not - said there’d been suspicious activity and that they were going to cancel my card, but I haven’t noted anything suspicious as yet. Queried that with her and she said they’d hold off on cancelling at this stage. Will probably need to check with actual card provider to see if anything has been flagged

Caller: Telemarketer

Just hung up on them since they struggled to provide a sufficient reason to be ‘questioning’ me. Claimed to be from Coles MasterCard. They immediately asked me to confirm my date of birth without even explaining anything other than being from Coles MasterCard. Very suspicious, told them that I’d “call them back”, and I’m so glad I reverse tracked the number to find this.

Caller: The guy said he was calling on behalf of Citibank

Being at work, I'm used to these kinds of calls and do Google searches on the telephone numbers when I'm suspicious of the nature of the call. It just happened that this number had 26 complaints before this one. I actually told him exactly that and basically told him to not call again. He then asked what number is the one that 'he' is calling from. That made me laugh in his face. I hung up.

They said there was suspicious activity on my account but I was suspicious so didn't give her any information. Checked with Citibank and they said the number is genuine and there had been an attempt.

Make sure to call your credit card company directly as this is just one of the numbers it shows up as.

Got a call for fraud claiming to be from Citibank with no reference number to give me or any idea of when,where or what happened.

Rang the back of my card and found out it was legitimate and then cancelled my card.
