People, people... gosh! Take a deep breath =)
www.rfbaq.org Rural Fire Brigades Association of Queensland - they raise funds for all the volunteer rural fire fighters throughout Qld. Why? Because, unlike every other state in Australia, the Qld Govt does not fully fund the rural fire brigade. The only way the bush firies can get money to pay for trucks, fuel, safety equipment etc etc is to FUND RAISE. See those blokes out there on Christmas Day battling enormous bushfires? They're not getting paid for that. That truck they're driving? They had to raise most of the money for that themselves. The fuel that they put in it? Probably came out of their own pockets.
FYI!!! Charities are exempt from the Government Do Not Call Register. If you don't want them to call, just *ask* them. They'll take you off their lists...
And if you don't want charities to every ring you, why not get stuck into the Government for not fully funding essential services, rather than take it out on someone wanting to help their community ;)
END RANT

Regardless of who they are or what they do , harassing people is not acceptable.

People, you got sucked in by a criminal organisation. First of all, we are a regular supporter of the Rural Fire Brigade and we have a PIN number. I received a call from (07) 5480 1369 yesterday afternoon and the caller identified herself as the RFB. I asked her to quote my PIN number and she gave me an incorrect six digit PIN AND a wrong surname. She asked for my real name -which I refused- I asked her how she got my mobile number (The RFB call our home phone) and she said they "bought it from a number broker". She apologised and asked if I would speak to her supervisor to sort out the issue. I asked the "supervisor" to quote all the detail they had and yes, they had my correct home address, but nothing else. She PUMPED and PUMPED me for my details -which I refused- and said to her; if you know my address, why don't you search your database for that address? She agreed and said she would call back on the registered phone number. Guess what -she never called back. BEWARE!.

This caller (07) 5480 1369, is a scammer and they have nothing to do with the Rural Fire Brigade, or any other association, its a scam.

Upon calling the Rural Fire Service from a number on their website, I was told that the number in question [(07) 5480 1369] isn't a list one of their numbers, and was most likely a scam.
They also stated that they don't call people asking for donations. They get funds from levies, which are collected through local councils.

Annie you are a moron! You copied only part of the statement from the RFBAQ webpage. In full it reads:
Fortunately this type of scam is very easily thwarted by knowing who you are talking to. In the first instance if you have caller ID the number that will be displayed is (07) 5480 1369 for when it is dialled from the RFBAQ Contact Centre.
You conveniently ignore that they state that (07) 5480 1369 is in fact a legit phone number.

Have just talked to the nice lady at the RFB headquarter on (07) 4580 1300 and she has taken me off their call list. It is the brigade doing their own fundraising, but the system they purchased has problems. They are changing to a new system shortly and hopefully this will get rid of the "overload calls" where no operator is ready to talk when the computer dials. She understands that I would rather help the local brigade with practical assistance and/or buy meat tray raffle tickets at the local pub to assist with fundraising as it is face to face.

Scammers ...They just called again, ignored it, then search the number online and found this on THE REAL rural fire brigades page.. Tuesday, 29 Jul 2014
The Rural Fire Brigades Association Queensland Inc (RFBAQ) has identified a scam involving the solicitation of funds by individuals in the name of the RFBAQ. This is not a new scam by any stretch of the imagination; many charities have fallen victim to this type of scam.
As we are now preparing for our peak fire and flood season, people are more inclined to dig deep and assist the Rural Fire Brigades. This makes it imperative your hard earned dollars are going to the right place and not into the pockets of scammers.
Fortunately this type of scam is very easily thwarted by knowing who you are talking to. In the first instance if you have caller ID the number that will be displayed is (07) 5480 1369. Further validation and confirmation can only be achieved during the actual telephone conversation with an on-site RFBAQ Contact Centre employee. An authorised RFBAQ employee can and will without hesitation provide all necessary information to ensure your full confidence in any transaction.

What gets me about all these scam calls is that they are known, yet go on for years stealing money from innocent people and not one thing is ever done about it - no traces, no warrants to get the address, not a thing. The only thing is a warning on the RFB site showing the exact number as being a scammer. Since it is then known, why is it still in use? If these people were so dead again scammers, how could this number still be calling after 2 years or more of being found out?

Even if the number displayed is a legit number for 'X' legit purpose, that does not mean that its the actual number calling. They can spoof it, your phone thinks thats the number calling, but it isnt.

I'm just letting everyone know that, with very little research, I looked up the Queensland Rural Fire Brigade website. www.rfbaq.org and it states the following "The RFBAQ’s Contact Centre is easily identified by the number that is displayed when we call - (07) 5480 1369". So for all those that who are claiming they have been contacted by a scammer, you might want to reconsider your comments. If you think they are a nuisance caller, you could just block the number.

The Rural Fire Brigades should be fully funded, but instead use volunteers who put their lives at risk out of the goodness of their hearts! They shouldn't have to ring around asking for money.

I have asked them to take me off their call list and they haven't, Last time the guy got quite Irate with me telling me they dont want money and trying to qualify who I was, then told me he wouldn't take me off their call list. When they unblock their number which they have done 5 times now to my phone, I just hang up and block and delete again. If it is a legitimate funding business for Rural Fire, they need to be held accountable for the harassments.
