If you are a Telstra landline customer & want to block nuisance calls, you now have the option of buying a phone from the Telstra Shop that can do this. The phone itself costs $48 and is well worth the investment. Numbers you BLOCK will hear the following message; CALLS TO THIS NUMBER ARE BEING MONITORED BY TELSRA GUARDIAN; THE PERSON YOU ARE TRYING TO CONTACT IS NOT ACCEPTING YOUR CALLS, SO PLEASE HANG UP.
People you place in your contacts list will get through as usual but anyone with a private / withheld number or a number that is not in your contacts list will hear this message; CALLS TO THIS NUMBER ARE BEING MONITORED BY TELSRA GUARDIAN; PLEASE STATE YOUR NAME AND THEN PRESS # AND WE WILL CONNECT YOUR CALL. You will then have the option of either accepting or rejecting the call.

I just had a call from this number. A female was on the other end. I interrupted her spiel and asked for her home number, saying she has a "sexy" voice. Answer: This is against regulation. My reply: You call me at home, why can't I call you? I kept pressing on, also asked her for her address and eventually she hung up. Problem solved!
I'm sure my number will also be deleted from their list.
Another ruse I have is: If I recognise the number as a telemarketer (I have a list near the 'phone, I collected over the years), then I speak only German. They usually give up after a while. If not, I take over and recite a long German poem. That usually also solves the problem.

I was told charities are exempt from the do not call list. But proof is hard to show over phone I could call someone and say I was a charity. Do not call should mean do not calll

This is most probably from Apple Marketing. I am sick of the phone calls that disturb our household, and they they just hang up. After going on their website, there is, on the bottom of the page an email address that you can apparently opt out of calls. Here it is if you are interested

To be added to our Do Not Call list
email your telephone number to: dnc @ applemarketing.com.au

Margie, if you get or have a hands free phone, you should be able to find a 'call block' on the menu. The way I do it is to look at 'Recent Calls', check this website about the number, and then use that number to place the call block on it through 'Menu'. Better still, buy an answering phone and once your greeting message starts, they will hang up (your regular contact names can be programmed to come up on the hands free phone screen when there is a call. Let your friends know about the answering phone so that if they are not yet not on your list they will need to start leaving a message so you know who it is). If your friends don't want to play ball, then they are not real 'friends' - well worth their winging, as the above information I've given will certainly give YOU peace and help retain your sanity!

Telstra, Optus and Microsoft that owns Skype are CRIMINALS and TRAITORS. They Rent Out the Australian phone numbers to the Indians Telemarketers and Research Marketers that lives in India for money and does not care about the Right of an Australia to be in Peace and not Disturbed. They need to be Hung by their Feet to teach them a lesson that they can not keep treating the Australian people like crap. In Fact everyone that works for Telstra, Optus and Microsoft Skype needs to be used for Brain Experiment to find out why they Encourage the Indians Telemarketers and Research Marketers to Interrupt other people concentration. People in Australia should Charge for their Time and send a Bill of at least $5000 Dollars just for hearing the annoying Ringing when those Telemarketers calls.

Thanks Mark!! Took the advice and purchased the phone from Telstra. I was receiving between 10 & 12 nuisance calls a day. I have now blocked over 40 numbers and WOW! what a difference haven't had any nuisance calls in the last week.

You can add the number to Auto Reject list on your mobile phone. Press to select phone number from your call Log then select Add to Auto Reject list.

The sad thing about this is that all charities asking for money get a bad name. However, if you once give to one of them on the phone, your number apparently gets onto a "soft touch" list and is passed around to other charities so your phone never seems to stop ringing.

This number has been calling my home phone once a day over the past few days. It hangs up before you get a chance to answer it. I have no intentions whatsoever of calling them back as they are probably telemarketers or scammers.

Yet another nuisance caller I see. They're getting beyond the joke. I simply don't answer the phone if I don't recognise the number.

I do not answer any calls from an unknown number. This lot phone every day, without fail - have never picked up on it. Don't care if they are a charity - am disabled and a pensioner, and to have to get to the phone for no reason is a right pain... No way am I going to donate on a phone call, even if I could afford to. Have my regular donations to people like the Salvos, and only give to these charities. Am on DNC and surely even charities shoul be banned.

They keep bothering my household too! I gave to a charity once & after that the calls never ended. They seem to think that everyone in Australia has the Midas touch. Little do they know that most are just keeping their heads above water. I just say charity begins at home and I hang up.

Hung up as soon as I answered, so rang them back and they are "Apple Marketing". I didn't give them chance to tell me what they were selling, but gave them a fairly severe serve anyway.

After years of these calls, I finally caved in to a charity that I cared about and I've been literally plagued with calls, numerous times on a daily basis from numbers starting with the (03) area code. I will never give to a cold-calling charity ever again.
