Rang & left a msg on my answering machine claiming that I had a Legal Lawsuit against myself for Tax Fraud. A warrant for arrest issued by the Court House. If I disregarded this msg, they would sent a police officer with warrant of arrest. Person on other end has an accent - possibly Indian. Didn't leave a name for themselves nor for anyone is my household.
However, since I am an accountant I know that the ATO would leave a 13 XXXX number to call back, they also would have left a reference number.
There would be written correspondence to advise of an investigation and a request for documents to prove otherwise, sent either through your registered tax agent or to your nominated postal address before you would even be arrested.
She did not specify which court the warrant for arrest had come from. Think they have been watching too many American movies. Hopefully nobody is gullible enough to believe them.

Said they were calling about a case file and to call back immediately or they would send police to my address with a warrant for my arrest.
Very bogus.

My elderly mother got the same call this morning - threatening to send the police to the house and arrest her, due to a pending law suit from the ATO.
Luckily I was at her house and listened to the message as she was very upset, it sounded bogus to me, as they didn't leave any reference numbers. I called the number back 03 4100 110 and they answered Australian Tax Office, they asked a number of questions of which I did not answer - I asked a few questions of my own- and let them know that they need to tell me what the details NOT the other way around. They hung up on me. These people are scum preying on elderly and vulnerable.

I have known about this and other scams for a long time. I thought this one had burned itself out, but 'Jennifer Smith' from this number left the same scam message on my answering machine today, April 1. It is not even a good April Fool. Be warned, these idiots just won't give up.

Scam. Ignore. ATO never calls. If someone wants you they'll send a letter. I wish there was a way to send them a legal notice and a cease and desist

Yep same as everyone else. Second time I have received this. First time I actually spoke to the person. I played along for a while because I was waiting to see where it would go. I ended up asking where they were calling from. Said they were from the Tax Office. I asked them where that was. Answer: In Australia. Then I asked them what City: There was a slight pause (the time it takes to do a quick search on Google) and they ended up naming some small country town in rural NSW. Anyway kept playing along for a bit and asked if they could send me a letter to confirm details. Claimed that they did not have to send me a letter and that the phone call was enough and that they would send the police around - yeah right!!. Doesn't take much to expose these people as fraudsters. If ever in doubt just ask a few questions and they will usually unravel their own pathetic scam.

Had a message this morning from a woman with an accent accusing me of Tax Fraud. Fortunately, I listen to talk back radio and have heard a lot of people speak of this Scam. I have reported it to the Taxation Office Scam Line.

My parents got the same people leaving the same message. They are from the ATO. That the police will come to their house if they don't send money owed.

Had this message left on my home answering machine at least three times per week for last three weeks. As a tax agent, I am sure the ATO would call me direct with any questions they had. I rang them to tell them I was reporting on ATO fraud line now as its Just bloody annoying - no. answer. Hang up or delete the message

Same female Indian accent left message twice about tax fraud. If I didn't call back (03) 4100 0110 police would come to my address and arrest me. Definitely a scam.

Thought it was very suspicious when the voice message was exactly the same when I heard it the second time. When I say exactly I mean EXACTLY the same, same tone of voice at the same points in the message.
