Also a message left on answer machine saying that I had not kept my Australian Taxation Obligations. When I called back, number is just engaged. Good to see from posts just a scam - pretty sure the taxation department number would not be 'engaged'

Jason O'Connor or Connor - ATO scam

Pretends to be from the ATO regarding Tax Evasion. Left a message on landline. Be aware of this idiot as he threatens that the.... 'police from the local police station will come over and arrest you'.....in regards to some ( not existent ) Tax situation.
Ignore this moron. The Australian Tax Office would never communicate this way !

Just received a similar message on our home phone line. Husband called back. Person had an accent , knew hubbys name and address. Told hubby to hang on while he gets his file. When asked "what happens if I hang up". Caller stated a warrant for his arrest would be issued and the local police will be there to arrest him". Hubby said "thanks" and hung up. I feel sorry for elderly people or those that possibly do have tax payment issues, they could totally get confused by these scammers.

I too just got home to a message saying that we had not met our tax obligation and if we did not respond t this message before the 4/4/16 then a warrant would be issued for our arrest, I could not make out on the message who the call was for ( my husband myself or either of my kids. very bad line so I thought I would look up the number before calling back, I am glad I did now to see all these messages, thought it was a scam and rightly so, I will be calling the tax department to make them aware too.

Had a message left by this loser. No names used for me or him and no business name. Just some poor English about tax and paperwork and enforcement, with no detail or real information. No idea who they wanted to talk to or who they actually were. No way I'd call back with such a useless nonsense message. If it was so legally important I'd get it in the mail. Ignore this idiot.

Definitely a scam. I rang back. The guy didn't even asked my name, just asked for my attorney's details. I then asked if he knew who he was talking to, if he knew my name. He said "Uhmm, Goodbye" and hung up. A lot of Indian call centre noises in the background.
