These are the strategies that are known as pre-calling "research". For example: if a human answers then after 1 phone call they know (from your voice) that the number is viable, that your home at that time and some basic demographics about you: your approx. age, your ethnicity, your level of literacy etc. They may engage you at this stage further but mostly it will be a hang up, or a hold the line. What ever they've gathered - it is useful and will be sold on. The agency that purchases your information from them now moves in harder - they employ tactics to illucidate, with determination, more from you (do you have a computer? do you have a car? how many people in the house over the age of....) sometimes they will use shock tactics to gether their information - they are from ATO, Local Council, Money Recovery Agency, a Solicitors office, your or a family members involvement in a car accident. Your new "case manager" has had to familiarize themself with you before the call, and now according to your responses, they will begin to probe. They have scripts, they have monitors and they have mentors. You have become their livlihood. They are trained to be impervious to abuse. Because we have become used to the typical "marketeers" voice, the trend now is to use anglo (even older) voices that, by custom, we hold an expectation of sincerity. Expect everything and believe nothing! Your telephone number has also been researched on the net. For eg: If you have genuinely delt with a reputable company, been pleased with the outcome and have given review/feedback for their website, this stays on the net, forever. These agencies scour these websites looking for just these "gems" you've unwittingly left. They will find something to link a name with a number and what has been purchased. Now they know a little more about your home, your renovations and more, your financial capacity. They have gone to alot of work to find you and they can't let you go easily. They get paid according to the value of the info on you they've gathered. Your profile is now ready to be picked through, sold on again - it all depends on who wants it. If you are targetted, there are ways to get rid of them. They do go on these sites and will read your responses to their calls. On the net now they have created false sites under the guise of DO NOT CALL registers - all your info now tumbles into their lap. Go to the Government site only. Simply we all need to have 24/7 call screening and alert friends, colleagues. BTW: they don't use "private number" anymore, that's too transparent. Their calls are cyclic and will target you in clusters of 2 3 or 4 times . Pragmatically, they are time and money driven, so they do need to move on, often passing your profile on to another agency. It's quite parasitic. As far as call blocking : they have multiple (hundreds) numbers to call you from, so call blocking only blocks the current number they've called you on. The have agencies who will call dozens of numbers simultaneously. If the phone answered, they know the number is still viable and they will call back. For us, this doesn't alleviate the nuisance but now we know more about them.

State they are from the Motor Accident Authority and that you have been involved in an accident in the last 2 years. Always with Indian acent and this is first time that caller ID has shown anyting other than 'P'.
If you start asking questions, such as how they found your number, etc they hang up.

Had nothing better to do so just had my second call, last time told them I do not have a car but they have rung again so this time I asked for vehicle registration number, date and place of accident but the Indian lady they did not have details, asked for name of Law Firm - Common Law Claim - telephone number = (02) 8005 0066 asked to speak to the lawyer handling the case she said they had 45 lawyers and not sure which one was handling it. After I hung up rang this number but of course not a valid number, there also does not appear to be a law firm by this name. Of course the telephone number was wrong as caller ID showed overseas and the number as 28005003561 (which of course is too long for a Sydney number). I guess they are trying to find people who have had an accident so maybe next time I will make one up and see what happens.

Call showing up on my answering machine calID as being: (02) 8005 0066
Indian accent caller: "Hello I am calling from the Australian Injury Hotline. Have you had a motor vehicle accident recently?"
[In the background can be heard multiple voices asking the same question.]
Me: I want to report an accident.
Indian accent caller: Yes!
Me: The accident involves you mother. She was raped by a goat. [Hang-up]

I could have played along with them and wasted their time, or got angry, but it would be just wasting my time even more. I suspect the scam works by ringing random people to find out if they have have had an accident and then passing on your details to a firm of compensation lawyers. It's just a variation of cold calling to find customers for whatever company has engaged them.
I don't know how they got my home number which is on the DNC register and has been a silent number for 15+ years.
What is needed is someone with time to provide all details required, (but faked) and then find out which firm of salivating lawyers eventually rings you to gain your lucrative business. Then waste their time and abuse them for using Indian call centres. And put their name on this forum.

Yep - he's doing the rounds of Canberra today. From 'Commonwealth Claims' he said, asking about any accidents in the last 2 years. Read officiously from his script when I asked him for more details. Don't waste his precious time. Hang up.

Received a call from "Australian Accident Care" today. They said they were calling in relation to an accident within last 2 years by either myself or family member. Wanted details. Gave them none. They claimed they were based in Sydney on the 02 800 500 66 number. Worrying thing is they also called my elderly and frail mother a few weeks ago who became distressed at the thought of a "family member having an accident". Absolute bastards.

Got a call today, Indian Accent. Said his name was Justin Brown. I asked for his company name and phone number, he gave (02) 8005 0066 and said it was "Common Law Claims". He wanted to know if I had been involved in a Car Accident in the last 2 years. I then asked him "What sort of a SCAM is this one"? If I say yes - what do you say? He got all excited and said "Have you had an accident"? I then said "And if I say no, what do you say then"? He then got a little dejected and said "You have not had an Accident"? I kept on asking him how the SCAM works once I give him more details and he kept on saying it wasn't a SCAM. I didn't have much on at the time, so I told him about a few SCAMS I know about and asked him for more information about his SCAM. Eventually he hung up. My SCAM with these people is to keep them talking to waste their time and get them to eventually hang up. NEXT!

I have just received a telephone call from a male claiming to be, “Ethan Hunt,” calling, “from the Accident Claims Department,” the call came through as unlisted on my Calling number display telephone. Although, he advised me that his number was: (02) 8005 0066. He wanted to know if anyone on the number that he had called was involved in a vehicular accident within the last two years.

I had to very slowly obtain the above information from the person before advising him that he was on a, “Mission Impossible,” if he thought that I was going to answer any of his questions. Shortly thereafter, I discontinued the call.

For the record, I have not been in a vehicular accident within the last two years and this is the second such call that I have received within a period of approximately six weeks.

Received a call very similar from 'Mark' today (02/03/'17). He gave his number as 02-800-500-66. Initially he claimed he had been asked to pass on information that someone had 'had an accident'. I feared that he was a bystander, or contact of a bystander, who had witnessed my wife having a car accident. The call was so unusual that I immediately reported the number and caller to local police. They suggested I contact Scamwatch.

They are still at it - phoning business numbers now in Adelaide. I went along with it for a while asking for a return number to call them back - Harry from Common Law Claims gave me (02) 8005 0066 but the call came from (02) 8005 0035. Then on our second phone line Robert rings from Accident Injury or such like. He's probably still wondering how Australian women can be so rude!!
