Got a voice to text message from this number telling me they "had a legal complaint under my name for tax avoidance and fraud"...Scam.

Says it's Michael Anderson from the ATO. Called both me and a friend within a 24hr period, but the ATO do not call people, they issue letters and emails.

This is a tax scam. The man has an accent - possibly Filipino.
But, given all the surveillance powers the Commonwealth has, why can't they just trace this number and go deal with these people?

Received a phone voicemail saying I was being taken to court for tax fraud.

How is it he is able to have an Australian number?
Surely it's traceable?

So, we all know that phone number (02) 5306 2283 is the origin of scam calls.
Presumably, Telstra knows it, too.

Someone is paying the bills for this phone number to remain in use, and Telstra (or another phone billing company) is taking money for a phone service that they know is being used for illegal purposes.

Why are they not doing anything about it?

Agreed, Michael Anderson is a scam calling on (02) 5306 2283. He states its a very important message for tax fraud and tax avoidance and would call the 'district court' if I don't respond immediately. Please be aware this is a SCAM and not to give any financial details to this person.

I did. Took about 5 minutes all up to collect the information.

Got a voice message today saying the following....

"Just to inform you that we just received a legal complaint under your name, and the complaint is for tax fraud and tax avoidance case, so finally before we go and take the matter into the local district court, and before we issue a warrant under your name, call us back on our number that is (02) 5306 2281, I repeat the number, that is (02) 5306 2281, do not disregard this message and do return the call as soon as possible. Again this is agent Lee and I'm calling you from the Australian Taxation Office."

The next one was exactly the same voice, definitely the same person but this time they gave a different name and phone number ending with a different digit.

"We just received a legal complaint under your name and the company's for tax avoidance and tax fraud issued under your name, so finally before we go ahead and take the matter into the local district court and before we issue a warrant under your name, kindly call us back on our number, that is (02) 5306 2283, I repeat the number that is (02) 5306 2283 do not disregard this message and do return the call as soon as possible. Again, this is Michael Anderson calling you from the Australian Taxation Office"

Received a voice message asking to call and when called a gentleman sai owed money and needed to be paid immediately, When I asked what account he hung up. scam

Got a call from Michael on (02) 5306 2283, if you're having a stressful day at work, call this number, as this is the best way to release some heat on to this scammers.... They ask for it ... please be careful don't share any personal info ....
